There is nothing better than being able to make your favourite coffee any time you like in your own home. Once you have invested your hard-earned money into a quality machine and all the accessories you could ever want, it’s important to make sure they stay in good condition so they can keep delivering every time you want to use them. Thankfully, it doesn’t take a great deal to look after a high-quality modern machine such as the Lavazza A Modo Mio, but a little effort occasionally can save you a lot of hassle in the future, and potentially having to contact the company for help.
Below is everything you need to know about keeping your Lavazza A Modo Mio working perfectly.
Establishing an easy cleaning routine
There are several parts to your Lavazza A Modo Mio coffee machine, some need routine maintenance or cleaning performed at a set interval, while others will depend on how often you use your machine. Below we’ll break each part down and tell you how to maintain or clean them. It’s worth noting that all the removable parts of your Lavazza A Modo Mio coffee machine, such as the water tank, drip tray, and pod collecting drawer, are all dishwasher safe.
Pod collecting drawer
This is part of your coffee machine that will depend on how often you use it. The more you use it the more regularly it will need emptying. However, we would advise you not to wait until it’s overflowing before emptying. When emptied, you can give the collecting drawer a quick clean and dry it off before putting it back.
It is important to make sure after making coffee each time, that your coffee capsule falls into the waste capsule drawer. Sometimes the capsule might stick to the capsule receiver, to resolve this all you need to do is to push the capsule down with your finger. If you find the capsule is sticking to the machine each time, you might have some coffee residue (coffee oil) built up inside, you can use a clean wet towel to give it a quick rub to remove the coffee residue, this will help prevent future capsules sticking to it.
With the current 100% compostable eco caps, because they are made with bio-degradable materials, they tend to stick to the machine easier than the old capsules, this is normal and is nothing to worry about.
The drip tray of even the most careful of us can get messy. To avoid it either getting full and overflowing or drying out and becoming a breeding ground for germs, it’s best to remove the drip tray and give it a quick clean and dry every few days. This is just a guideline, as if you clean your drip tray then don’t use your machine for two days, it’s unlikely to need cleaning, whereas if you’re making lots of drinks in a single day it may need emptying/cleaning more regularly.
Cleaning the coffee dispense couldn’t be simpler. Once a week, perform a coffee brewing procedure without inserting a coffee capsule. This will allow just hot water to pass through the dispenser and keep it clean and dispensing as it should.
Descaling your Lavazza A Modo Mio
How often you need to descale your coffee machine will partly depend on the water that’s going through it. Some machines will need descaling more often than others, but as a general guide we recommend you descale you’re Lavazza A Modo Mio machine once every 3 to 4 months. If you live in an area that has particularly hard water, and you notice a reduction in water flow through your machine, then you can adjust how regularly you descale your machine to suit your needs.
When descaling, you should always use a commercial descaling product. Some people have tried using vinegar to descale their machine, but we do not recommend this.
To descale your machine, you should remove and empty the water tank, then refill it with water and the descaling product in the mixture stated on the descaling products packaging. Once completed, refit the tank to the machine.
You should then switch the machine on and place a suitable cup to collect the solution as it passes through. Feed two cups of the mixture through the machine, then leave the solution to work for 15 to 20 minutes.
After the time has elapsed, switch the machine on and repeat the process of feeding cups of water through the machine, except this time keep feeding fluid through until the water tank is empty.
Once completed, remove the water tank and wash and dry it thoroughly. Refill the tank with freshwater and refit it to the machine.
Feed the entire contents of the water tank through the machine until it’s empty. Repeat this process again, refilling the water tank and discharging its contents through the machine, to be sure all the descaling solution is gone.
Once all the above steps are complete the descaling cycle is finished. We have more detailed Lavazza Coffee Machine Cleaning and Descaling videos on each of the product pages, to view these videos, please click the following machine image, and check on the Product Video link below the Description.
